This Privacy Policy explains how FileLock ("we", "our", or "the app") handles information when you use our mobile application. FileLock is a private file vault: a place on your phone to keep documents, photos, videos and music behind a passcode, with a built-in browser, a download manager, a media player and a set of file tools.
The short version. Your files never leave your phone. FileLock has no account, no sign-in, and no server that stores anything you put in it — we could not look inside your vault if we wanted to. The app connects to the internet only for the things you ask it to do: browsing the web, downloading a file you chose, and buying a subscription. Beyond that it sends anonymous usage and crash diagnostics, described in section 8.
Everything you import, scan, download or create in FileLock is written to a folder that belongs to the app inside your phone's own storage. That folder is not shared with other apps, is not synced anywhere, and is never uploaded to us or to anyone else.
Because there is no copy anywhere else, please keep your own backup of anything you cannot afford to lose.
The passcode you set is stored only on your device, in the secure storage your operating system provides for secrets — the Keychain on iOS, encrypted preferences on Android. It is never sent to us and never leaves the phone.
If you turn on Face ID, Touch ID or fingerprint unlock, the matching is performed entirely by your operating system. FileLock is told only whether the check passed. The app never sees, receives or stores your face or fingerprint data.
Your files themselves are kept in the app's private storage, protected by that storage's sandbox and by the passcode screen. FileLock does not add a second layer of encryption on top of the file contents, so it is worth saying plainly: the passcode keeps other people out of the app, and the operating system keeps other apps out of its storage, but the files are not encrypted with a key derived from your passcode.
FileLock includes a web browser and a download manager so you can save a file straight into your vault.
FileLock's tools — scanning a document, reading a QR code, converting and compressing PDFs, images and video, extracting text, creating archives, computing checksums — all run on your device using your operating system's own frameworks and libraries bundled inside the app.
No file you run a tool on is uploaded. There is no server-side conversion. If you are offline, the tools still work.
Camera and photo library permissions can be granted or revoked at any time in your device settings. If you never use these features, you never need to grant them.
FileLock shows one folder, Computer Shared, that is deliberately visible to a computer you plug the phone into — Finder or iTunes file sharing on iOS, the app's external files directory on Android. It exists so you can move files on and off the phone with a cable.
Files you put in that folder are still on your device and still not sent anywhere by us, but they are reachable by a computer with physical access to the phone, and they are not behind the app's passcode. Everything outside that folder stays in the app's private storage.
To understand how the app is used and to fix problems, we collect:
These events never contain your files. No file name, no folder name, no file content, no web address you visited and no scanned text appears in any analytics event. A tool event records which tool ran, not what it ran on.
If you email us for support, we receive your message, your email address, and whatever app and device details you choose to include.
We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell it.
FileLock PRO is sold as a subscription through the Apple App Store and Google Play. Payment is handled entirely by the store. We never receive or store your payment card details — only whether a subscription is currently active, so the app knows what to unlock. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and you can manage or cancel them in your App Store or Google Play account settings.
FileLock uses a small number of third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:
We do not run a backend that receives your files, and no third party receives them from us.
Analytics and purchase traffic travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Your vault is held in storage that your operating system isolates from other apps, and the app locks itself behind your passcode after the grace period you choose. For your files, the strongest protection is the simplest one: they are never sent anywhere, so there is no copy in transit and no copy on a server to breach.
FileLock is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
The diagnostic information described above may be processed in countries other than your own by the providers listed in section 11. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place in accordance with this Privacy Policy. Your files are not transferred anywhere at all.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new policy on this page and update the "Last Updated" date above.
